Heritage Day

The original date, September 24th, was originally observed as Shaka Day. The day was named Shaka, the Zulu king. 1828, he died on September 24th, 1828. Shaka was instrumental in making South Africa a more cohesive place. The post-Apartheid Parliament of South Africa did not include September 24th as one of the country's public holidays, according to the country's public holidays. Several Zulu members, as well as the Inkatha Freedom Party, protested this exclusion. Heritage Day was established on September 24th, and it was proclaimed as such a day. In 1995, the first celebration took place.
