People are encouraged to drink plant-derived milk every year on August 22nd. It's also a day to learn more about plant milk's nutritional value.
It's common knowledge that milk comes from cows, especially the black and white ones. However, humans drink milk that comes from other animals as well. This includes goat milk, as well as milk that comes from buffalos, camels, sheep, yaks, and horses. Did you know that milk also comes from plants? Plant milk was almost unheard of a few years ago. However, more and more people are switching from animal to plant milk, which is worrying. According to a recent report, 38% of households surveyed drink plant-based milk.
Why is everyone making the switch? Why are people making the switch? One reason is that animal milk contains a protein called lactose. Lactose is a protein that is ineffective in certain people's diet. Abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea,, and indigestion are all typical of lactose intolerance. About 68 percent of the world's population is lactose intolerant. Since these people can't drink animal milk, they miss out on a great source of calcium.. This essential mineral strengthens the bones, keeps teeth clean, and helps blood vessels clot.
On the other hand, plant milk does not contain lactose. It does, however, still contain calcium. In fact, some forms of plant milk are higher in calcium than animal milk! Plant milk also has less fat, less sugar, and Vitamin D than animal milk, as shown by the table below. Many plant milk drinkers claim it tastes just as good as animal milk. Plus, plant milk is delectable in smoothies, cereal, and most recipes that call for milk.
