World Ampersand Day

On World Ampersand Day, we honor the fun & useful curly & quirky little character.

#ampersandday

This curvy, strange form is universally useful, from jotting a shorthand "and" to corporate names. As you'll see at AmperArt.com, "the ampersand as fun & glorious art" is also very aesthetic.

On September 8th, we commemorate and praise this wonderful little glyph. To find out why this date was chosen, click here.

Ampersand FAQ

Is it legal to use an ampersand in a book title? Q. Is it okay to use an ampersand in a book title?

A. Creative books with the word "and" in the title often use the ampersand on the cover art because it creates an intriguing layout. The "and" will be spelled out in digital documents in order to improve the publication's search capabilities. To make this point clear, David Gilbert's title & Sons looks to make this point clear.

Q. Is the ampersand trademarked?

Yes and no. Several trademarks use the ampersand in their designs. For example, Ampersand Art Supply Company included the word "ampersand" in the company name. Custom typefaces and fonts can be copiedrighted and most often include an ampersand in the set. However, only the collection's name can be trademarked.
