Ataxia is defined as the loss of complete control of bodily movements. Ataxia is a degenerative disease of the nervous system in the medical world... Poor coordination, a tendency to stumble, a refusal with fine motor tasks, and changes in speech are all typical signs. The condition is related to damage to the cerebellum. oordination is controlled by a fist-sized portion of the brain stem.

Damage to the cerebellum can be caused by several conditions:

  • Stroke
  • Tumor
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Brain degeneration
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Infections
  • Vitamin deficiencies

In some instances, the cerebellum is damaged by alcohol use or certain drugs. Ataxia comes in a variety of forms. Hereditary is one of the two forms of spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA). There is no definite cause for ataxia in those people with ataxia. When a doctor is unable to determine the cause of the illness, it is called idiopathic ataxia.

150,000 people in the United States are affected by this rare disease. Ataxia affects 26 out of every 100,000 children worldwide, and there is no cure for ataxia... However, signs can be controlled. However, allergies can be controlled. Medications, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are all typical of symptoms management. Some people who lose mobility due to ataxia may need a mobility device, such as a walker or wheelchair.

Ataxia patients have a shorter life expectantly. This is particularly true for those who have ataxia as a child or young adult.. However, some people with ataxia have lived into their 60s and beyond.
