International Stage Management Day
International Stage Management Day (October 10th) celebrates and honors all the hard work that stage managers do behind the scenes every year. It's also a day to learn more about stage managers.
Do you remember the last time you attended a live performance? Chances are that even if you were watching, you didn't think much about what was going on behind the scenes. This is because there is so much happening right before your very eyes. However, there is a lot of life going on behind the scenes as well.
Stagehands and stage managers are among the many back-stages employees that work these behind-the-scenes jobs. Without their hard work, the show simply could not go on. All stage managers do the same tasks as stage managers, including organising furniture and props, arranging costumes, and making sure the actors are accounted for. Another important role of a stage manager is to plan and organize rehearsal schedules.. The more actors there are, the more difficult it is to do.

Stage managers must also have knowledge of audio, lights, and other technologies that are essential to a performance. Since stage managers oversee each performance, they often know all of the actors' lines. It's no wonder stage managers are the director's right-hand man with all that they do.

History of an international stage management day has a long tradition
On October 10, 2013, the Stage Management Association (SMA) established the first Stage Management Day (SMA) for the first time. According to Andy Rowley, executive director of SMA, countries around the world observed the day. These countries included New Zealand, Australia, Australia, U.K., the United States, and the United Kingdom, as well as Europe. The day was shortened to International Stage Management Day in recognition of its worldwide success.
