The sweet tooth in all of us is a favorite of young and old alike, on December 19th.

The hot, pliable sugar is poured into molds, rolled and folded into shapes, and left to cool until the temperature is reached. Once chilled, solid sugar becomes hardened and brittle.

The first hard candies, such as lemon drops and peppermints, were certainly prescribed as a cure for stomach ailments.

As sugar prices decreased, hard candy became popular in the seventeenth century. Hard candy was once something that only the wealthy could afford. More than 400 firms were producing this popular snack by the mid-1900s.

Jolly Rancher's Original was the best-selling hard candy in 2015, surpassing Werther's Original as the best-selling hard candy. Dum Pops, Life Savers, Tootsie Roll Pops, and Charms Blow Pop are among Dum Pops' most popular hard candies.
