FOREFATHERS’ DAY – December 22 (Unless on Sunday, Then Following Monday)
Fri Dec 22nd

Forefathers' Day

Each year, Forefathers' Day in Plymouth, Massachusetts, commemorates the Pilgrim Fathers' landing on December 21, 1620. The Old Colony Club of Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1769, the observance was held in 1769. On December 22nd (except on Sunday, then on Monday, then the following Monday), The town observes the holiday.

Several events are held at the Old Colony Club in 1769 to honor the ancestors of the 1769 family line. Members of Cole's Hill, next to Massasoit's statue, begin at 6:00 AM with a march by members to the top of Cole's Hill. They will read a proclamation in honor of the forefathers, followed by a ceremonial firing of the club's cannon.

Both the Old Colony Club and the Mayflower Society's celebrations include a succotash dinner. Sauquetash's first anniversary was documented as part of the first celebration. Suscotash is served as a broth with large pieces of fowl and meat that are sliced at the table, unlike later versions of succotash in Plymouth. The Old Colony Club did not have a "pilgrims" call for the Forefathers. The name didn't appear on the internet until much later.

Well into the 1800s, from New England to Los Angeles, churches, and other groups commemorated the day with meals they referred to as "New England" dinners. Speeches reflected on the lessons learned in the years since the Plymouth settlers arrived.. Others related to their past.

The day of forefathers' day in the United States has a long tradition

On December 22, 1769, the Mayflower's Descendants founded the Old Colony Club and established Forefathers' Day to honor the forefathers." "To honor the forefathers." The anniversary of the landing was incorrectly estimated to be December 22nd rather than December 21st when adjusting the date to the Gregorian calendar..

Two notable celebrations took place 100 years ago. The Pilgrim Society's first celebration at First Parish Church was held in 1820 for the first time in 1820. Daniel Webster penned a moving tribute to the pilgrims. It was Webster's touching address that brought Plymouth Rock into the patriotic spotlight. On Forefathers' Day that year, he made it a historic like never before.

On December 21st, President Woodrow Wilson declared the day as Pilgrims' Day, reflecting the more accepted conversion to the Gregorian calendar.
