National Roots Day
Families are encouraged to investigate their family roots, heritage, and ancestry on December 23rd.
Each year during the holidays is a great time to gather family information. While families gather around the table sharing stories and memories, someone is certain to be the family historian. It is entirely likely that a grandparent, parent, aunt, or uncle has already established a family tree and will share it with other family members.
When is National Day of Listening? Organize photos – and get them organized before memories fade. After a decade or two, names, places, and dates become fuzzy. Every generation is involved in the struggle to involve every generation.. Share challenges and triumphs. Share struggles and triumphs. Document stories from one generation to another. Each generation's efforts, travels, failures, and triumphs are compiled in this series. They help us to be who we are today, but they don't help us to be who we are today.
It is often interesting to learn about our ancestors' lives; where they came from, their struggles, and their accomplishments. It's a blend of everyone on the family tree that helps to make the person we are today.

Investigate your own family's roots. With your children, share family tales.. Those photos were arranged in a folder. Asking questions is one of the ways to encourage family members to share their family history.. Come prepared with the facts you want to learn.. At the same time, be prepared to listen. You never know what stories are worth hearing. Tools you will want to have on hand include: Here are the items you will want to have on hand:
- A notebook
- Pencil
- A tablet or computer
- Video or audio recording of something to record Audio or video
- A list of questions
- Your family tree
- Stories you may have missed are ones you may have missed out on
- Photos, particularly ones you need assistance identifying, are especially ones that require assistance in identifying

If your relative has additional photos, request permission to make copies. These photos will help you to identify people in your collection whether you take a picture with your phone or bring a portable scanner. You should match them to the stories your family member is sharing, too.
