National Life Insurance Day
May 2nd of each year is National Life Insurance Day.. In the United States, this day marks the first day life insurance became available.
On May 2, 1759, the charter was approved by the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers. In 1769, Episcopalian priests established a similar relief fund. Between 1787 and 1837, more than two dozen life insurance companies were established, but only about half of them survived.
People can do some really amazing things for life insurance. It can take time for loved ones to grieve. It will pay off debts and loans, giving surviving family members with the opportunity to start fresh with a clean slate. It will keep families in their homes and pre-fund a child's college education. It can help keep a family's company alive. It can be difficult to live on for a lengthy time for a family's family.
