National Rescue Dog Day celebrates all the benefits of allowing a four-legged canine to adopt you into your lovable life on May 20th.

About 3.3 million dogs enter shelters each year, according to the ASPC A. Each one needs a permanent home and their potential is limitless when these abandoned and abused animals find their way to a shelter. They're rescue dogs.
Dogs of any size, color, or breed will find a way to nuzzle, fetch, or beg your way into your heart. You'll find it difficult not to scratch one behind the ear rather than scratching one behind the ear..
Rescue dogs are able to clear extreme obstacles. And yet, they provide companionship, safety, and love as family pets. Rescue dogs are also able to do much more. They contribute to the independence of people with disabilities by providing service animals and comfort to the elderly, with training. They become our eyes, ears, or legs as well as our best friend under these circumstances..
In addition, rescue dogs provide a variety of health benefits. Autism children, teens, and adults with autism may be able to benefit from services provided by trained rescue dogs. Rescue dogs can help alleviate anxiety, depression, and PTSD among the military or those suffering from mental illness.
They make excellent teachers, too. Children are taught by rescue dogs how to care and kindness. Even more, rescue dogs can be trained to rescue us from dangerous situations or assist in investigating the cause of a fire.
They're able to help their four-legged friends by leaps and bounds, barks, and yips. It's difficult to imagine a more helpful, valuable companion. It's time to treat them.
How to celebrate national rescue dog day
Get involved in the lives of rescue dogs by getting involved. Puppy love can be shared in a variety of ways.
- Volunteer at your local shelter... Taking dogs for walks, grooming, and giving them lots of love improves their socialization
- Shelters always need funds. Financial contributions are always welcome.. The majority of shelters have a list of regular necessities, including blankets, bleach, toys, candy, and leashes
- Consider adopting and bringing one a forever home if you have space in your household for a rescue dog
- Consider foster care. Before an adoption can take place, many dogs that were abandoned in shelters require some surgical or rehabilitation in a home setting
- Remember to spay and neuter your animals. The number one reason shelters exist is overpopulation.

History of national rescue dog day has spanned the nation's rescue dog day
On May 20, Tails That Teach founded National Rescue Dog Day in honor of the many ways rescue dogs have inspired people to be a part of the human family. The day also raises concerns about the number of dogs in shelters. Every belly rub gives them unconditional love and unabandoned joy.
Lisa Wiehebrink, author and creator of Tails That Teach, was inspired by Cooper's rescue dog from a Los Angeles shelter, inspired by her rescue dog.
