Loomis, born on July 21, 1826, was both the designer of artificial teeth and one of the first wireless communication pioneers.. On October 13, 1886, Loomis died.

Loomis conducted several experiments in electricity using kites flying miles apart in Virginia's mountains leading up to his patent. In 1868, before many scientists and congressmen, he demonstrated his wireless telegraphic device. While he was unable to explain how he was able to produce the transmission, he appealed to Congress for an authorization to use the Loomis Aerial Telegraph Company for study. Senator Charles Sumner introduced the bill on May 30, 1872, but the Committee on Commerce declined on the measure on May 30, 1872. It eventually became a bill of incorporation in 1873, after Stripped of its appropriations.
