National Sewing Machine Day
Every year on June 13th, National Sewing Machine Day honors an invention that has kept us in stitches for more than 150 years.. Stitch by a single stitch before the sewing machine, tailors, and sewists made clothing by hand, stitched by hand. Revolutions were brought about by the invention of the sewing machine. Thomas Saint, a skilled cabinet maker and English entrepreneur, received the first patent for a sewing machine model in 1790. He wanted his artwork to be sewn on leather and canvas. Nevertheless, he never promoted it, and no evidence of the style other than his drawings could be found. In 1874, William Newton Wilson discovered Saint's drawings in the London Patent Office, which was in 1874. Wilson created a working model with some minor changes.
