National Sewing Machine Day

Every year on June 13th, National Sewing Machine Day honors an invention that has kept us in stitches for more than 150 years.. Thomas Saint, a skilled cabinet maker and English entrepreneur, received the first patent for a sewing machine model in 1790. He wanted his artwork to be sewn on leather and canvas. Nevertheless, he never promoted it, and no evidence of the style other than his drawings could be found. In 1874, William Newton Wilson discovered Saint's drawings in the London Patent Office, which was in 1874. Wilson created a working model with some minor changes.
