The global wind day was the first global wind day in history

The first Wind Day was held in 2007 by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA). In 2009, the EWEA joined forces with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and made it a worldwide event. WindEurope and the GWEC have coordinated the day jointly for the past two years. The organizations sponsored a photo competition in 2012. People from around the world were encouraged to submit photos that best represented the year's theme. The Wind in Mind" and "Future Wind" are two of the new themes.
