Many people have attributed to the creation of this delectable snack. such allegation was made by a Mr. Robert McCay Green of One such allegation. He introduced the drink in Philadelphia in 1874 when he ran out of ice for his shaved ice treats, according to Green. He had a hit on his hands when he began substituting ice cream. Even included in his will that Green's funeralstone read, "Here lies the manufacturer of the ice cream soda."

To make the drink colder, Elizabeth Mohr of Elizabeth, New Jersey, would combine soda water with ice cream.. Mr. Green's testimony was dismissed as early as 1862, beating out Mr. Green's assertion.

Customers are encouraged to "try It, Try It," Sheld's 1862 Newport Daily News's commemorating Ice Cream Soda's commemorating Ice Cream Soda's "Try It, Try It, It." It seemed that it was something new at the time, as shown by the pictures.
