National Logistics Day

National Logistics DayTM, which takes place on June 28th, promotes recognition for the vital role the logistics industry plays in both our national and international economies.

#nationallogisticsday

The logistics industry first took form when Marco Polo travelled to China on the Silk Road. His detailed written record opened the way for future traders and merchants traveling between Europe and China. In 1896, the invention of the "horseless carriage" semi-truck changed how freight moved around our country. In 1910, the first air cargo flight took place in just 14 years later. The first container ship from New Jersey to Texas sailed from Dayton to Columbus, increasing the speed with which goods could be delivered in the United States by 1956. Shipments have forever changed the way products moved around the world. These advancements show how logistics connect the world – and always have.

Logistics accounts in the United States account for over 8% of everything we produce and sell today. That includes packing, warehousing, shipping, and more. The third-party logistics (3PL) industry, which helps businesses effectively manage logistics throughout their supply chains (from 3PLs to truckers to warehouse managers), represents an $800 billion industry on its own.
