International Fairy Day

DAY IS INTERNATIONAL FAIRY DAY.

On June 24th, Fantasy, imagination, and a little bit of pixie dust all came together to celebrate International Fairy Day.. These tiny supernatural animals have captivated myth and legend for generations. Today, the wee folk's tales are told in animated books, miniature garden displays, and children's books.

Depending on the culture, there is some reference to a spirit or spritely creature that performs either good or evil deeds. Often, there are many versions of these beings, but not so many have been so intricately embedded into the culture as those of the Celts.

There are brownies and hobgoblins that barely resembled the delightful looking fairies described in film and art today. They were, however, helpful little creatures, doing household chores, and the tedious jobs that leave us mere humans weary at the end of the day.

The banshees are the most dangerous of the fairy family's. They are the harbinger of ill fortune. This ardent Bean Sidhe predicted death, according to Irish legend. Various interpretations of her tale have appeared in Ireland and Scotland. She was often eerie and gruesome, a ghost tale for soldiers and childbearing women.

Many of the wee folk are associated with nature... The trees are tree spirits, while gnomes live among the roots. As diverse as the oceans of the earth, there are a number of water fairies in the world's folklore. These water spirits take as many shapes as the seas' fishes, from merpeople to water nymphs and pixies.

Fairies can be tumultuous designers as they are small. Today's Leprechauns are regarded as the mischevious devils who are not to be trusted, though they were once thought of as water spirits and humble.

Tylwyth Teg, a Welsh legend, is a fairy family known for kidnapping. They will leave a changeling in the child's place, also known as Bendith y Mamau or "the mothers' blessing." Although these terrible fairies are at it, they will take horses for wild rides, leaving them drained.

The tales of Celtic lore include more gnomes, sprites, and magical winged creatures, but this is just one small part of the world. More myths abound under the canopy of the Amazon forest and deep inside the Taroko Gorge.
