International Whisk(e)y Day
Every year on March 27th, whiskey enthusiasts from around the world come together to celebrate their favorite distilled alcoholic beverage.. The parenthesis is used to indicate support for the Scots, Canadians, and Japanese who cannot say it without an e. When writing out the word whiskey, both the Irish and Americans include the letter e.
Whiskey is made from fermented grain mash. Corn, wheat, rye, and barley are the most common grains used to make whiskey. Many people drink whisky for pleasure, but many people drink it for their health. Whiskey contains ellagic acid, a potent antioxidant that helps prevent cancer. Warm water and honey are mixed with whisky to relieve swollen throats. Others believe that drinking whisky will prolong their life.

- American whiskey – tends to be sweeter than other whiskeys – and it includes bourbon, rye, and Tennessee

These whiskeys are distilled in their respective countries. The Irish people are credited with being the first whiskey distillers in the world. Whiske comes from the Irish word, uisce beatha, or "water of life." Each kind of whiskey has a particular alcohol content, which is indicated by proof. If a whiskey is 100 proof, it means it contains 50% alcohol by volume.
