Martyred Intellectuals Day
On December 14th, Bangladesh observes Martyr Intellectuals Day every year. This is a day of remembrance for a large number of intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani forces in 1971.
A major conflict erupted in East Pakistan in March of 1971 due to elections. The Awami League, a political group, had won the elections. During the establishment of a new government, arose. The Bengalis and West Pakistanis were particularly tense. The Awami League launched a campaign of civil disobedience, and unrest erupted. Many non-Bengali civilians were assaulted by Supporters from many non-Bengali civilians. This was the start of the Bangladesh Liberation War.
The Pakistani forces began to fail on December 14, 1971, the Pakistani forces sensed defeat. They kidnapped and murdered Bengali intellectuals and professionals as a result. They did so in an attempt to intellectually cripple Bangladesh's newly independent country. These intellectuals included educators, researchers, scientists, physicians, engineers, and journalists. They were forced out of their homes, blindfolded, and killed.
360 intellectuals were killed in the Provisional Government of Bangladesh, according to the Provisional Government of Bangladesh. This number has been challenged for some time. According to some, over 1,000 intellectuals were killed. Despite the fact that the government has a comprehensive list of those who were killed, no one has been killed, the government has yet to publish a list of those who were killed.

The martyred intellectuals were laid wreaths at the memorial site in Dhaka on the day by Bangladeshi government officials. The martyred intellectuals day in history is the deadliest academics day in history
The government of Bangladesh had the intention of establishing a memorial in Dhaka for the martyred intellectuals in 1993. The Martyred Intellectuals Memorial was started in 1996 and was completed in 1999. Family members and loved ones of the martyred intellectuals visited the gravesite where their loved ones were believed to have died before the memorial was constructed.
