History of national columnists' day in the United States has a rich tradition

On April 18th, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, which was established in 1977, sponsors and promotes National Columnists' Day annually. Ernie Pyle, a Pulitzer Prize-winning war reporter who died while on assignment in Okinawa, Japan, died on the same day in 1945.
