The national decency day has a long tradition in the United States
In 2019, Lisa Cholnoky, a New York City-based parent and graphic designer, established National Decency Day, a discussion that began two years ago inspired by her inspiration... On the day, the day addresses the divisive public discourse around her, as well as in the news and on social media. Cholnoky set out to bring decency back to everyday conversations and activities, determined to make a difference. Cholnoky invented the DECENCY button early on and wore it every day. The effect was immediate; the word contagious. The message was brief; the message was contagious.
Each member of the US Congress was sent a DECENCY and 535 DECENCY buttons in July 2017. DECENCY was recognized on the floor of the United States House of Representatives in September 2017, encouraging both sides to reach across the aisle with civility and serve as role models for us all.
Since then, two schools in the country have introduced DECENCY into their curricula. They've also joined their local communities in the movement. This is a great opportunity for schools to inspire students of all ages to treat everyone with respect and master the art of listening.
The campaign, by raising the funds, is intended to encourage more participants to embrace DECENCy and weave it into both curriculum plans and service projects.
