Mrs. George Clay's recipe used Baker's German Sweet Chocolate, and it became extremely popular. During this period, General Foods owned Baker's brand and sold Mrs. Clay's recipe to other newspapers around the country. The current German Chocolate Cake, as we know it today, came to be as magazines began to stop using the word ‘s.'
