Every year around the world, a class of students is honoring their academic achievements and accomplishments, and this National Graduation Tassel Day on May 17th is just the start. The day honors not only the accomplishments, but also the future of every graduate.

Audiences and stadiums are packed each year with proud families and friends eager to attend the commencement ceremonies of high schools, colleges, and universities. Tassels dangle from the mortarboards in the colors of their prestigious companies... Graduates and families are preparing for the big day with each gown crisply pressed, graduates and families.
Graduates, as your day arrives, square your shoulders, keep your gazes steady on the future, as your day approaches. In this moment, pause to consider all of your challenges... When the principal or dean reads your name and your diploma is in hand, move your tassel.
Upon graduation, high school and undergraduate students begin with their tassels on the right and move their tassels to the left. For those earning graduate degrees or higher, the tassel begins on the left and shifts to the right after completing their higher-level degrees. Moving the tassel has only recently gained traction in the last 50 years.
