NATIONAL NEVADA DAY - March 29
Wed Mar 29th

National Nevada Day

We began honoring each state in the order they were born in the union, beginning with Hawaii and ending with Hawaii on Independence Day. We've chosen a small piece of each state's past, foods, and the people who make up the state. There's so much more to discover, but we can't help but celebrate our beautiful country even more.

Nevada became the only other state to be granted statehood during the Civil War on October 31, 1864.

Treeless in the majority of the desert landscape. The state transforms quickly thanks to large open spaces, majestic gorges, majestic mountains, and windswept rock formations.

Nevada may have once been the loneliest state in the nation, but it is home to the country's loneliest highway.. The population increased dramatically after the discovery of silver in 1859 by Comstock Lode in 1859.. Nevada did not have the 60,000 to be granted statehood by 1864, when the state was admitted to the union, and did not have the necessary residents until 1880. It will even decline population and not reach the qualifying figures again until 1910, according to the US Census Bureau, and not until 1910.

Nevada, whether you like it or not, was the first state to vote for the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery.

Nevada wasn't lonely for long, but it wasn't lonely for long. When two railroads connected in 1905 and established a town called Las Vegas, the population exploded, and first platted in 1910. It will take 30 years before the first resort opens in 30 years. Casinos and glamour will soon follow..

As the casinos began to sprout, Hoover Dam construction began. Hoover Dam was the first building of the casinos. The dam on the Colorado River, which was once known as Boulder Dam, provides hydropower to Nevada, Arizona, and California.

National Parks make up the majority of the state, providing some of the best opportunities for stargazing anywhere. Possibly that's why Area 51 gets so much attention and mystery. We're kidding, who are we kidding?
