It's the result of the hard work done by talented people and organizations.
People who need it most are those who need it most. Nonprofits, education, study, and assistance reach the people who need it most. In addition, nonprofits also bring significant benefits to their local communities and the rest of the world.
For example, the nonprofit sector contributed 5.4% of the country's entire GDP (gross domestic product) in 2012, or $887.3 billion, following the 2012 US recession. According to John Hopkins and Tactical Philanthropy Advisors, nurses, web designers, attorneys, computer engineers, and others are always recruiting nurses, web designers, economists, computer scientists, computer engineers, and others.
For these reasons and more, National Nonprofit Day honors those who have set out to make a difference.

Beginning with exemptions for nonprofit corporations and charitable organizations, the Tariff Act of 1894, which was signed into law on August 17, introduced the first federal income tax on corporations, including exemptions for nonprofit corporations and charitable organizations. With few updates, nonprofit exemptions remained a significant part of the legislation and have provided significant benefits to communities and the economy, as shown by the numbers.
