National Odometer Day

Each year, the National Odometer Day on May 12th gives the opportunity to learn a little bit about the odometer..

An odometer is a device that measures the distance traveled by a vehicle. It may be electronic, mechanical, or a combination of both. The word odometer comes from the Greek words hodos, which means path or metron, and metron, which means length. In some countries, an odometer, kilometer, or tripometer are used to describe an odometer.

Odometers were first introduced in the 1600s for wagons and other horse-drawn carriages to record distance traveled. Arthur P. and Charles H. Warner of Beloit, Wisconsin, pioneered the first odometer for the automobile, which appeared in 1903 and was patented as the Auto-Meter...

A tachometer, paper making machine, electric brake, and power clutch will all be patentable by the brothers. Stewart-Warner Speedometer corporation, Inc., created a thermometer for the motor at one point in their company's history. They did win a case for patent infringement, but they did lose.

Arthur Warner, one of America's oldest pilots, was Arthur Warner. Curtiss Pusher plane was built and flown by his engineering curiosity. He eventually built and flew a Curtiss Pusher plane.

Although technology has progressed since 1903, the odometer continues to record how far we have traveled. In addition, it shows how far we go in a single trip. Fuel consumption and oil pressure, speed, and RPMs are all monitored by other gauges.
