National Old Maids Day

On June 4th, National Old Maid's Day honors the women who never marry and remain childless each year. Although the term doesn't seem to be flattering, less common terms such as spinster have been used to describe single, childless women for centuries...

Nevertheless, the observance honors Old Maids from around the world and their contributions to their families and communities. Although they are single, this does not mean they are solitary. Old Maids are often career-oriented, postponing marriage, and motherhood by choice or circumstance. The Old Maids are hardly wallflowers waiting to dance, from a vibrant social life to a dedication to volunteerism, church, and their extended family.

These women are also dedicated to their extended family, in addition to being active in their families. They may plan family reunions or be the keeper of family history, depending on their situation. These women are the glue that keeps families, communities, and organizations running smoothly. These women are the glue that keeps families, communities, and organizations running smoothly.

The national old maid's day has a long tradition in the United States

Marion Richards of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania, 1948, held the first Old Maid's Day gathering. "Guests ranged from 75 years old to an age when hope still flickered," Asbury Park Press writer June 4, 1982. The day was established to celebrate all the contributions Old Maids make to their families and their families. Richard was a host. The Old Maids are honoured. Single women played a significant part in numerous aspects of the curriculum, churches, offices, and families during Richard's time. Richards wishes that Old Maid's Day would become as popular as Mother's Day as June is full of floral bouquets, white lace, and wedding plans.
