National Postal Worker Day
On July 1st, the National Postal Workers Day honors postal employees from around the country and encourages us to express our appreciation. We're grateful to the numerous men and women who work tirelessly and diligently to deliver all of our mail. These employees face some of the most difficult working conditions, yet they continue to work six days a week.

postal employees walk an average of 4 to 8 miles per day, carrying a full load of letters and parcels to each of our doorsteps. Approximately 490,000 postal employees in the United States are out each day to our homes and businesses. Regardless of the weather, postal employees continue to provide all week long. The mail arrives even as temperatures change between extreme heat and cold. In the rain, sleet, and blizzards, the mail is delivered.
Handling strange parcels is also part of the job, in addition to extreme weather. The postal service began delivering parcels up to a maximum of 11 pounds in 1913. A small child was the most surprising box to arrive for delivery. James Beagle was sent by mail, but he was unable to bear the weight limit. A postal worker delivered young Beagle to his grandmother just a few miles away, for a price of 15 cents. This activity lasted for just over a year.. By then, the postmaster general had rules excluding it.
