National Read Across America Day (dr. Seuss Day)
On March 2nd, Dr. Seuss' birthday, each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated. The annual celebration is part of Read Across America, the National Education Association's initiative on reading. The day is observed on the nearest school day since the festival is intended to encourage reading in children and is fostered by the schools.
All children and youth in every neighborhood around the United States are encouraged to celebrate reading this holiday. They can read wherever they are at anytime. These are some of the best ways to spark reading in children.
- Keep books where you spend time. Keep books on hand. Put them in the car, in every room of the house, and tuck them into backpacks and purses. Make them easily available by making them readily available
- Often visit the library. A love of reading as well as genuine admiration for the library's services libraries provide is aided by knowing how to use the library and discovering the benefits of a library.
- Get to reading. Children imitate what they see the adults around them do. Let them know that reading is the cool thing to do whether they see you read a magazine, newspaper, or novel
- Read to your children. No matter what age or gender, reading aloud enhances their vocabulary and language skills. It also opens up discussion possibilities
