The Sloppy Joe is one of America's all-time favorite hot sandwiches.. Ground beef is often used as the base ingredient. However, some people use turkey and buffalo as well. Its flavor is tempered by the other elements, though. Onions, tomato sauce, brown sugar, cola, or maple syrup to sweeten it and seasonings to spice it – and of course, any unknown ingredient families may add over the years... Different theories have been put forward as to the source of the sloppy Joe. There was a genuine bartender in Havana, Cuba, in the 1930s, named Sloppy Joe, who attracted a following with vacationers.. He was given his reputation for his less than enthusiastic way of sweeping the bar. He was, however, an attentive bartender, and the bar was a hotspot for the jet set.

However, no mention is made in journals from the onset of a hot sandwich on the menu matching the description of a Sloppy Joe and the man of the same name returned to Spain in 1933.

Then in 1934…

Abraham and Bertha, who appeared on the Ye Olde Tavern Inn in Sioux City, Iowa, disputed the Sloppy Joe when they introduced a loose meat sandwich on their menu in 1934.

In 1969, Hunt's made it more accessible to the world. Whoever introduced the Sloppy Joe to the world, Hunt's made it more accessible. They put it in a can and called it Manwich.

Today, many households have their own recipes that make their Sloppy Joe's special.. A Sloppy Joe lends itself to originality and personality, whether it's an unusual spice, a novel ingredient for sweetening, or a homemade tomato sauce. A new look is just around the corner.
