National Texas Day

We began honoring each state in the order they were born in the union, beginning with Hawaii and ending with Hawaii on Independence Day. We've chosen a small piece of each state's past, foods, and the people who make up the state. There's so much more to discover, but we can't help but celebrate our beautiful country even more.

People from the United States have a long history and people who have influenced history and culture

Texas became the 28th state admitted to the Union on December 29, 1845, but its rich past goes long before that date... Names like James Bowie, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, and Juan Seguin echo throughout the state, from Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's tyrantry to the Alamo in 1836. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's 1835 to the Alamo's 1836.

Where Texas is concerned, many legends abound. The Yellow Rose of Texas was a mulatto woman who distracted Santa Anna during the Battle of San Jacinto, allowing the republic to win the war. Many credit Emily West, the name of a woman, but historians find no evidence to back up this assertion. In Houston, Veryl Goodnight's statue stands.

News circulated slowly during and after the Civil War. In Galveston, Texas, it took the arrival of Major General Gordon Granger, 1865, and his announcement with General Orders, Number 3 that the Civil War was over and all slaves were now freedmen for life. Whether it required the military to enforce the new federal statute or if the news were truly slow, June 19th became a celebration of culture and liberty, commemorating culture and liberty on Juneteenth.

Technology and landscape are both essential and landscape in the United States and Canada

Texas is a big fan of technology. The Lone Star State wears both its boots and lab coat at the same time, as the Home to Johnson Space Center and more than one computer firm that started as a startup. They've introduced the handheld calculator and 3-D printing as well as other medical advancements... And let's not forget, Dr. Pepper.

There's plenty of Texas to see whether heading to the Gulf Coast, staying close to the panhandle, which includes a patch of Route 66, or wandering the Great Plains.
