Walnut trees are a high-density source of minerals, particularly proteins and essential fatty acids, thanks to their rounded, single-seeded stone fruits of the walnut tree.. Walnuts must be processed and stored properly, as with other tree nuts.

The Persian or English Walnut and the Black Walnut are the two most common walnut species grown in the United States, and they are grown for their seeds.

More walnuts are exported in the United States than in any other region. Ninety-nine percent of California's commercial English walnuts are grown in the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys.

Baking and cooking

For a variety of reasons, bakers use walnuts. Walnuts add crunch and flavor to baked products such as pies, breads, and cakes. Keep walnuts on hand to add to muffin, pancake, and waffle mixes. However, baked goods aren't the only recipes in the kitchen where walnuts come in handy. They're also added to soups and other savory dishes. Walnuts are a popular ingredient in fresh vegetables, salads, fruits, and other dishes. Finely chopped walnuts make delicious crusts for fish, chicken, and pork. When walnuts are in season, don't hesitate to try new recipes.
