Russian Language Day
Every year on June 6th, Russian Language Day honors the seventh most spoken language in the world. In addition, the day honors Aleksandr Pushkin, a Russian poet who is regarded as the father of modern Russian literature.

In 2010, Russian Language Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). They want to celebrate multilingualism and encourage equal use of the UN's six official languages. Unicesco chose June 6th to commemorate Aleksandr Pushkin's birthday. Born in Moscow on June 6th, 1799, the famous Russian poet, playwright, and novelist was born.
