According to a 2016 Gallup Survey, nearly 9 million people in the United States identify as an LGBT elder. Adults who are older than average adults face more challenges than any other age group. Discrimination, social stigma, and loneliness are among the most common problems LBGT elders face on a daily basis. However, older LGBT people are often overlooked when care is required.
Learning about LGBT history helps educate and develop an understanding of the struggles and triumphs of past and present.
