She ran into several technical difficulties throughout the flight. Her aim was to land in Paris, France, and she achieved it. Ruth Nichols attempted to fly solo across the Atlantic for the first year this year. Had she succeeded, she would have been the first woman to do so. In New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Nichols' crashed while attempting to land for refueling.

Earhart's flight difficulties brought her a red Lockheed Vega 14 hours and 16 minutes later in Derry, Ireland, 14 hours and 16 minutes later. All in all, the flight was a success. She was the first female pilot to complete the journey. She received the United States Distinguished Flying Cross following Earhart's record-breaking achievement.
