Barbershop Music Appreciation Day | July 13

Barbershop music's roots lie in African American history and their traditional improvisational music from the 1800s. Folk songs and hymns performed in four parts contributed to the four-part harmony of barbershop music.

While many of us may associate a cappella music with a quartet, entire choirs also sing barbershop. People of all ages and from every ethnicity are also included in barbershop groups. Their appearances can be heard at local events or national championships. The music is oftenuplifting, spiritual, or simply amusing, and it often includes songs with clear lyrics and easily singable melodies.

Women of all ages are united around the country, with organisations like the Sweet Adelines, which were founded on July 13, 1945, bringing women of all ages together. Crowds are swooning to fun tunes thanks to the blending of their voices. The women also compete, much like the men's clubs.. While also performing locally, they tune their voices and rehearse.
