DSAwarenessDay is a national event that takes place in the United States

As part of a routine physical, the Centers for Disease Control recommends that people between the ages of 13 and 64 obtain an HIV test. For those that are sexually active, the CDC recommends testing once a year and often more often, depending on risk factors.

The day encourages a more open dialogue between partners as well. Improving knowledge of the disease and access to testing can reduce risk.

Many people with HIV/AIDs need to know the benefits of continuous therapy. Since HIV weakens the immune system, it's also vital to have a vaccination regimen.
