When is National Gingerbread Day?

It's the season to celebrate National Gingerbread Day.' Although this may sound strange, gingerbread enthusiasts around the country celebrate on June 5th each year by sampling their favorite recipes and gingerbread treats. Any time of year, whether it be bread, cakes, bars, biscuits, or cookies, they're delectable any time of year.

Gingerbread is a sweet dish that traditionally uses honey or molasses rather than sugar, and is usually flavored with ginger. Gingerbread cookies range from a soft, moist loaf cake to something closer to a ginger biscuit.

Gingerbread is thought that an Armenian monk first introduced gingerbread to Europe in 992. He lived there for seven years, teaching gingerbread baking to the French priests and Christians until his death in 999.

Gingerbread biscuits were sold in monasteries, pharmacies, and town square farmer markets in the 17th century. Gingerbread became extremely popular during the 18th century.
