When is National Glazed Spiral Ham Day?

Saturday April 15th

On April 15th, each year, the National Glazed Spiral Ham Day celebrates an innovative and delectable dish. This delectable dish that is often served at a holiday feast is based in Harry J. Hoenselaar's basement.

NATIONAL GLAZED SPIRAL HAM DAY - April 15

In 1952, the Detroit, Michigan entrepreneur invented not only his spiral slicer but also the ham glaze.. His revolutionary device made it possible for the entire bone-in ham to be cut in a single continuous and even spiral. The end did not only look great for baking, but also for serving. The resulting slices made a delectable main course dish. Hoenselaar founded HoneyBaked Ham in 1957, the first time Hoenselaar founded the restaurant.

Since the patent was outlawed in 1981, several firms now sell glazed spiral hams. However, we continue to thank Harry J. Hoenselaar for making them a possibility.

With a glaze made of sugar, honey, or orange juice, a traditional glazed ham is baked. Spices to taste are often added to spice dishes.
