When is National Love A Tree Day?

Tuesday May 16th

National Love a Tree Day, each year, celebrates the joys of life provided by trees on May 16th. Two examples are examples of reading in the shade or taking a bite out of a fresh fruit pie. Of course, planting trees for future generations to enjoy is also beneficial.

Tree species that are long-lived are found in the United States. Some trees live to be several thousand years old. Around 766 million acres of forest land exist in the United States, according to the United States Forest Service. This number has remained stable since 2012. There was a steady decline from 1,023 million acres to 754 million acres between 1630 and 1910.. That's a decrease from 46 percent to 34 percent of the total land area of the United States.

In the last 400 years, trees have been used and managed in a variety of ways. Where people live and how we farm has also changed. While some urban forests are growing, some rural forests in particular are declining, while others are in decline. Tree planting initiatives improve landscapes, but human activities and population growth continue to impact ecosystems.

On a sunny day, trees provide more than just stunning landscapes and a shady canopy. They play a vital role in reducing erosion and moderating the climate, as well as providing us with oxygen. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are stored in their tissues as trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. They provide habitat and structure for healthy ecosystems.
