On May 6th, National Nurses Day is celebrated annually. On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments while still acknowledging the vital role nurses play in society. National RN Recognition Day is also this day. This day is also the first day of National Nurses Week and is also known as National RN Recognition Day.

Florence Nightingale's birthday (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910) is May 6th and concludes on May 12th, the sixth and final week of National Nurses Week. Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, sociological reformer, statistician, and the originator of modern nursing. During the Crimean War, she became well-known for helping the wounded soldiers. Nightingale was nicknamed "The Lady with the Lamp" because of her habit of making rounds at night.
