Tom Carvel had a flat tire on Memorial Day weekend in Hartsdale, New York, New York, 1934. The businessman knew his product was melting after pulling his ice cream truck into a parking lot. As holidayers passed by, Carvel sold the softened ice cream to them. They loved the soft ice cream, despite surprising results. On the salesman, the opportunity for a new dessert was not lost. eam truck, Carvel could have a designated location with soft ice cream instead of a roving ice cream truck.
Tom Carvel opened his first ice cream store on the same site where his truck broke down two years ago. Carvel invented a super low-temperature ice cream machine and created a new form of ice cream in the previous years.
