When is National Tennessee Day?

We began honoring each state in the order they were born in the union, beginning with Hawaii and ending with Hawaii on Independence Day. We've chosen a small piece of each state's past, foods, and the people who make up the state. There's so much more to discover, but we can't help but celebrate our beautiful country even more.

Tennessee was heavy burdened during the Civil War as the gateway to the deep south. Tennessee was often divided as the nation was divided during the civil war as a slaveholding state with many Union sympathizers and Union occupying units. It was the only state to have a war or skirmish in every county.

Memphis and Nashville are two major cities that draw a lot of talent and attract even more. It should be no surprise that Tennessee's music and entertainment industry thrives. For more than 75 years The Grand Ole Opry has been a pillar of radio shows, thrilling audiences of all ages. The Grand Ole Opry has been a pillar of radio performances.

The state also claims to royalty. The King of Rock and Roll made his home at Graceland. Today it is the most frequently visited private residence after the Whitehouse. Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, was born in Memphis, too.
