When is National Trivia Day?

Those who accumulate and hoard tidbits of useless information are commemorated on National Day on January 4th. Well, National Trivia Day is a holiday, of course!

NATIONAL TRIVIA DAY – January 4

Each year, the holiday honors the collectors of unconnected, insignificant data, facts, history, and quotes. They are the ones who usually provide these often surprising snippets of history when friends and family members least expect it.

The word "trivia" was used in ancient times to refer to something entirely new.

Informally trade concerns and answers about their youth's common culture. Ed Goodgold and Dan Carlinsky, Columbia University students, and Columbia University students Ed Goodgold and Dan Carlinsky created the first intercollegiate quiz bowls after writing trivia columns. They gathered culturally (and emotionally) relevant yet virtually useless data. The students dubbed the tests trivia games. TThey later published Trivia (Dell, 1966), the first book to explore trivia in the modern new sense. This book also appeared on the New York Times bestseller list, despite its ranking.
