Christianity dominated Christianity around the world until 1517. That is before an Augustinian monk named Martin Luther started studying the Bible for himself. He was then determined to nail his "95 Theses" to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany, and was delighted to do so. Part of Luther's theses condemned the Roman Catholic Church for several of its unbiblical activities. One such activity involved asking for rent in order to forkover sins. These payments were referred to indulgences.
