Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie wrote the fun Christmas song in 1934. The song goes on to say that Santa Claus sees everything that boys and girls do, so they better be safe for goodness sakes.
The whole idea of children being naughty or nice may have arisen in Holland in the 16th century. Parents clogged their children's clogs near the fireplace before there were stockings were available. On their clogs, good children will find candy or cookies. A lump of coal would appear on Naughty children, however, as a result of their investigation.
Even though Santa Claus will make his list on December 4th, there is still time for naughty children to make it on Santa's nice list..
