WORLD RED CROSS DAY

World Red Cross Day - May 8

Henry Dunant, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement founder who was born on this day in 1828, is born on May 8 every year. The day is designed to broaden the public's knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The International Committee of the Red Cross was established in Geneva, Switzerland, in the year 1863, as a private group with a mission to provide rapid and effective humanitarian assistance to people in war and disaster-affected areas. According to the human rights legislation, the Red Cross committee consists of 17 and 25 members who are empowered to plan lifesaving activities and protect the victim's reputation on a national and international basis.

Red Crescent Societies are affiliated and work in collaboration with the World Red Cross to support in the movement's operations. In virtually every world region, National Red Crescent societies and Red Cross Societies are present.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an international humanitarian movement that was established to safeguard human life and health, ensure equality for all human beings, and reduce and alleviate human suffering.
