WORLD HUMANIST DAY

Every year, World Humanist Day is commemorated on June 21. It's a way to spread word and combat misinformation about humanism as a philosophical life position and a way to influence change in the world.

Humanism was first described as "humanitas" in the Encyclopedia Britannica. To the fullest extent, it represented human virtue in all its facets.. "Understanding, benevolence, compassion, mercy," the word implied, but also more assertive characteristics such as fortitude, discernment, prudence, eloquence, and even love of honor were implied. The term "understanding, benevolence, compassion, mercy" were among the list's key words. Accordingly, the possessor of human rights would not be limited to merely a sedentary and isolated scholar, or a man of letters, but it was also a participant in active life."

Find out and attend a local lecture or discussion on or about June 21. The global, such as talks about the Humanists International's global, to individual, such as open forums where people discuss their personal paths to Humanism, can all be discussed.

History

The AHA and then the IHEU passed resolutions naming the Summer Solstice to be World Humanist Day in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

  • The first National Humanist Day was held in The Netherlands in 2013
  • The summer solstice is June 21, the same day or close to the same day as the summer solstice... The solstice festival has echoes of ancient communal gatherings, as well as reflecting humanity's increasing scientific knowledge of our planet and being an event that is worldwide broadcast at the same time in the calendar
