World Intellectual Property Day

DAY INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION PROFESSIONAL PROTECTION DAY IN THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROTECTION DAY.

Every April 26, we commemorated World Intellectual Property Day to learn more about the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. On Capitol Hill, it's the day the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) sponsors a commemoration of World Intellectual Property Day.

People and businesses have the right to the knowledge and intellectual property they produce under the control of law protecting innovative intangible creative products.

What is intellectual property theft?

You should know what it is to rob someone's tangible property, such as a car or money. Did you know it's against the law to take someone's intangible property, such as a song, story, photograph, or artwork?? Imagine writing the song that you performed to a group of friends. One of them records the song and publishes it without giving you credit. They could be found guilty of stealing your intellectual property.

It is impossible to protect intellectual property rights. Unlike traditional property, intellectual property is indivisible – an infinite number of people will "consume" an intellectual property without it being depleted. While a landowner can generally surround their property with a strong fence and deploy armed guards to shield it, a writer of information or an intellectual product can often do little to discourage their first buyer from reproducing it and selling it at a lower price.

History

"To raise awareness of how patents, copyright, logos, and designs influence daily life" and "to honor innovation, contribution made by designers and innovators to the global development of societies, the event was initiated by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "increase awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks, and designs have a huge influence on human societies."

Intellectual property rights go back to 1883 and 1886, when the Paris Convention for Industrial Property and the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works provided for the establishment of a "International Bureau."
