World Sjogren's Day

Every year on July 23rd, World Sjogren's Day raises the alarm of this immune system disorder. Also a day to better understand the signs so that Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) Syndrome is properly diagnosed.

Sjogren's Syndrome affects millions of people around the world. The two key signs of this immune system disorder are dry eyes and dry throat. The immune system attacks the cells that produce saliva and tears with Sjogren's. Sjogren's can cause problems in other areas of the body in addition to affecting the mouth and eyes. This includes the thyroid, kidneys, liver, lungs, and nerves. Chronic illness is often associated with other health conditions, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. b.

Sjogren's disease has other signs such as:

  • Joint pain
  • Skin rashes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Persistent dry cough
  • The salivary glands of swollen salivary glands are swollen
  • Poor dental health
  • Excessive thirst

Chronic exhaustion affects many people with Sjogren's Sjogren's. At least 13 forms of exhaustion have been found by The Sjogren's Foundation... Basic, recovery, sudden, weather-related, exhausted, but wired, and exhaustion brought on by stress and anxiety are all examples of these types of exhaustion. Many with Sjogren's are likely to suffer from one or two of these types of exhaustion at some point in their lives. Sjogren's disease sufferers report that exhaustion is the third most common symptom of the disease.

Since the signs of Sjogren's vary from person to person, it can be difficult to diagnose. Several of the signs are similar to other autoimmune disorders, which also makes it difficult to diagnose.

There is no cure for Sjogren's disease. However, there are some medication options that can help with symptoms. Medications may be able to help with symptoms associated with dry eyes and dry mouth. Hydroxychloroquine has been used to treat symptoms for over a decade. Any physicians may also recommend drugs that affect the immune system. Ear acupuncture, probiotics, black currant seed oil, and fish oil are all examples of natural remedies that can help relieve symptoms.
